The current official version of Age of Rifles: v1.4 (Released late April, 1997) Two notes: 1) The update may include a new game.cfg file. This is where your game options and rules settings are stored. When a new update game.cfg is applied it will overwrite any options that were in effect before the update. Be sure to check all of your game and rules settings after installing the update. 2) If you have any problems after updating the game to v1.4, they may be due to a mistake in application of the update. Beginning with the v1.4 update, the updates for AoR have been released as "patch" files. To install the update, simply run the update executable (rifles14.exe) and give it the path to your installation directory when prompted. This will update all files in the appropriate directories. How can you tell if this is the problem? There should be no *.PCX, *.LBM, *.SHP, or *.FNT files in your Rifles directory. All *.SHP files, for example, should be in your rifles\graphics subdirectory. Delete any misplaced files to free up disk space, then reapply the update per the instructions on SSI's update page. If you feel you have found a program bug, feel free to contact me directly. I will examine the problem. If there is a bug it will be fixed as quickly as possible, and I will send an "unofficial" update your way as an attached file. Any such bug fixes will be included in the next official update. Unofficial build information: The current official build is v1.4.01. This the file included with the standard rifles14.exe update file. There is an unofficial build available: AoR v1.402 notes: This is an unofficial version of Age of Rifles. It is not supported by SSI, so if you have any problems with it contact the author (yours truly) at nkoger@onr.com 1) Problems have been reported with the pbem file naming feature in v1.401. This build _should_ take care of the problems. 2) Here's a strange one. Units could only "frantic fire" if the primary weapon had a frantic fire capability. Now, they should be able to fire if either weapon has a frantic fire capability. Again, this is an unofficial build. It should take care of a couple of minor annoyances, but test of this build has been _very_ limited. Let me know if you see anything odd in pbem or reaction fire with this version.
